In September 2010, the team hosted a “site-warming” event at the Deanwood site to introduce the project to the community. Amidst hot dogs and solar games, the team mingled with residents to discuss the Empowerhouse project and sustainability writ large—from what it means to build a “net-zero” home that produces all of its own energy, to the benefits of growing vegetables on a roof garden and in window boxes.
