Impact and Awareness of Competition is at Stake

The twenty universities competing in the 2011 Solar Decathlon are some of the best minds in the building and design industry. These teams represent the future leaders that will advocate for renewable energy technology, and their goals are directly aligned with President Obama’s challenge for clean energy. The Department of the Interior’s decision to remove the Solar Decathlon competition from the National Mall undermines the goals of the President and disregards the hard work of the student teams. Having the competition on the mall is iconic and signifies that we have support from the government. The mall is also accessible to DC residents as well as visitors from all over the world, creating an impact that cannot be matched elsewhere.
