It sounds like a cheesy werewolf movie from the early nineties, but it is really something vastly important to our project and also currently in progress on our house.  See those black strips on our house?  Not the tape, but the wooded pieces that are set in a fun vertical pattern like zebra stripes?  Yea you do.  That’s the furring. That will be what we attach our cedar and cement board siding to so it sits off the house and acts like a rain screen. It’s like that undershirt you wear under your nice clothes to keep your nicer outer clothes from getting sweaty.  But in this case it’s kind of the reverse.  The furring will set our cladding/rain screen slightly off the house, keeping the moisture away from the house itself.  I admit it’s not a perfect metaphor, but it gets the idea across, somewhat.
