The New School and Stevens Institute of Technology are participating in the 2011 Solar Decathlon, an international biennial competition which challenges 20 collegiate design teams to build and operate solar-powered homes for exhibition on the National Mall. The teams entry, Empowerhouse, has taken the competition one step further. These enterprising students and faculty are working with Habitat for Humanity Washington DC and the District of Columbia Department of Housing and Community Development to turn their demonstration house into a permanent home in Deanwood.
The team and Habitat for Humanity Washington DC are pleased to announce two information sessions for families interested in applying to live in one of the two three bedroom homes that will be constructed in the Deanwood area of Ward 7 after the 2011 competition. The sessions are being held:
Thursday, May 12th from 7 to 8pm at the Riverside Center
5200 Foote Street NE, Washington, DC 20019
Saturday, May 14th 2 to 3pm at the Redeeming Love Church
4611 Nannie Helen Burroughs Ave NE, Washington DC 20019
